Spiced mulled wine recipe from the L'Assomption Christmas Market

We love seeing it every year: the mulled wine at the L'Assomption Christmas Market is a must-try. Our team has found a recipe you can make at home for that same feeling of comfort and magic.

During the first editions of the L'Assomption Christmas Market, delicious spiced mulled wine was handcrafted by dedicated volunteers. They worked hard to meet the high demand from market visitors! Over time, CabaNoël, which offers this comforting drink, moved closer by setting up its production facility in a location near the market. One thing has not changed over the years: the preparation remains the work of volunteers who still follow the traditional recipe!

SPICY MULLED WINE RECIPE

1. First, place the following ingredients in a saucepan:

  • One liter of red wine
  • ½ cup of white sugar
  • Five cloves
  • A pinch of cinnamon
  • The zest of one seedless orange, peeled with a vegetable peeler

2. Remove the white skin from the orange and cut the fruit into pieces. Add the orange pieces to the other ingredients.

3. Heat until a white foam appears. Do not boil.

4. Strain the mulled wine through a sieve to remove the spices and orange pieces.

5. Optional: add 1 tablespoon of rum (per 1 liter of wine).

6. Enjoy!

Mulled wine is served as an aperitif at Christmas. It is best enjoyed outdoors by the fire or after a nice hike. Stop by the market to try some!
