Planning a vacation and don’t want to leave your dog behind? After all, they’re part of the family too! Good news: in Lanaudière, finding places to stay and things to do with your four-legged friend is easy. Here are some suggestions for places where Fido can tag along in Lanaudière.
Where you can hike with your dog in Lanaudière
Here are all the places you can go hiking with your pooch in Lanaudière. Dogs on a leash are welcome on most of the trails in the Parcs régionaux de la Matawinie. Also, check out the National Trail, the Forêt Ouareau Regional Park, Sept-Chutes Regional Park, Chute-à-Bull Regional Park, Chutes de Monte-à-Peine-et-des-dalles Regional Park, Chutes-du-Calvaire Regional Park and Lac Taureau Regional Park. Leashed dogs are allowed here, and hikers will find lots of trails of varying difficulty and length.
All the hiking trails in the municipality of Saint-Donat accept dogs on a leash. This means that you and Fido can get your steps in at the Cap-de-la-Fée, Montagne Noire, Mont Sourire and Mont Ouareau. Some shelters in the forest along the trails also accept dogs.
The Brandon Trails and walking paths at Abbaye Val Notre-Dame in Saint-Jean-de-Matha also welcome pets on a leash with some conditions. In town, the Parc Riverain Base-de-Roc and Île Vessot accept leashed dogs. You can also explore the trails at the Saint-Lin recreation and tourism park with Fido. The Parc de l'Étang du Grand-Coteau in Mascouche also has a dog-friendly trail.
Dog-friendly beaches and swimming areas in Lanaudière
Not many places allow pets on beaches in Lanaudière, but we’ve put together a short list for you. In Sainte-Mélanie, the Plage Bernard campground accepts up to two dogs per campsite and access to the beach is permitted. At Parc Léo-Jacques in L’Assomption, dogs are allowed on the side of the beach that is to the right of the dock. In Saint-Côme, many dog owners bring their pet for a dip at the rest area along Rang 9. There’s also a kayak launch.
Other things to do with Fido in Lanaudière
Dogs are welcome on the walking trails at Terre des Bisons in Rawdon. Enjoy a walk with your pup along the 1.2 km trail where you can see bison and wapitis. Pets, however, are not allowed in the Quebec big game interpretation centre.
Dogs are welcome at the Saint-Gabriel winery, but not allowed on the outdoor patio. Picnic tables have been set up so that visitors with pets can enjoy a tasting.
You can visit Miel de Chez Nous with your furry friend, so long as it’s kept at a reasonable distance from the other animals. Call ahead to make sure your dog is welcome on-site.
